Make a Difference - Volunteer 

More than 200 compassionate individuals volunteer at Nyack Hospital. Volunteering can be a very rewarding experience that will stay with you throughout your life.  Our volunteers are warm, caring and talented adults and students who make a true difference in the lives of our patients, their families and our staff.

Our volunteers are also provided with paid parking, a discount for the hospital cafeteria and are invited to our volunteer recognition lunch.

Adult Volunteer Requirements:

Health Screening:  Before starting your position, all volunteers are required to undergo a T.B test and drug screen, both provided by the hospital at no cost. The TB test is an annual requirement.

Background Screening: Reference and criminal checks are conducted on all volunteers before they start their position.

Dress Code:  You will receive a badge and are required to wear casual business attire and a volunteer jacket supplied by the hospital.

Volunteers have the opportunity to work in some of the following areas: Patient Care Units, Emergency Department, Patient Transport, Book and Art Cart, Pet Therapy (your dog must be certified), Business Offices, Thrift Shop, Gift Shop, Front Desk Greeter, Infant Cuddler Program, Patient Fall Safety Program, and the Volunteer Office.  Volunteer positions do not include the ability to shadow physicians.

Summer VolunTEEN Program (applications accepted January 1st – March 31st)
Teens can gain valuable experience and contribute to the community through our summer volunTEEN program. High school students between the ages of 14 and 17 are eligible to apply.  Due to the large number of applications we receive, only 50 summer students will be accepted for the program. The 2016 summer program has been filled, we are unable to accept any additional applications.  Please check back early next year.  Thank you.

Please read all the information below before filling out the application.

Becoming a VolunTEEN:

  • The program runs from July to August.
  • All accepted volunTEENS must attend a 3-hour morning orientation session. Lunch will be provided.
  • The program fee is $30 (no cash) which includes a volunteer shirt.
  • All students must receive a T.B test administered by the hospital’s Employee Health Service (EHS) office. All students must be accompanied by an adult 18 years or older to receive the test.
  • Teens must provide a copy of immunization records at time of EHS appointment (do not attach to application).

Program Details:

  • In order to participate in the program you must be 14 years of age by July 1 (NO EXCEPTIONS).
  • All teens in the program must volunteer weekly over a six week period, and must be available during normal business hours. Weekends and evenings are not available.
  • Teens must volunteer 5 hours or more per week.
  • All teens must commit to 30 or more hours within the six week program.
  • Assignments and schedules will be discussed during the interview process.
  • If your family is planning a vacation or you will be attending a summer camp at anytime during the summer program, please let the manager know during the interview process.
  • Before submitting an application, please consider carefully whether this time commitment will fit your schedule or other summer commitments.
