Treatment Services > Radiation Oncology

Advanced Radiation Oncology Services at Nyack Hospital is committed to providing the best care possible and offers the most advanced technology for the treatment of cancer anywhere.

The physicians at AROS were the first in the area and 30th in the world to implement the revolutionary TomoTherapy®, which is unprecedented in its ability to shape radiation delivery to the tumor and avoid normal tissue.  They are most experienced in the use of Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) and Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT).  These physicians were the first to use both Stereotactic Radiosurgery and Stereotactic Body Radiosurgery in the county.

Additional modalities available include Accelerated Partial Breast Radiation Therapy (APBRT) and Accuboost. Accelerated partial breast irradiation is a sophisticated technique that is used after lumpectomy to accurately administer radiation directly into the lumpectomy site using a balloon catheter. The radiation course is ‘accelerated’, lasting only 5 days instead of the standard 6-7 weeks required for whole breast irradiation.  Accuboost is a technique using mammographic guidance to accurately deliver a more intense ‘boost’ of radiation to a specific site in the breast.

At Nyack Hospital our highly trained and experienced radiation oncologists will work with you and your Breast Center team to tailor your treatment to your individual needs.
